“Do These Reading Glasses Make Me Look Old?”: How Raindrop Can Help

Person reading newspaper

There are many things about your appearance that can give away your age. Gray hairs and a few wrinkles are two. Reading glasses are another.

Around the age of 40, many people notice that their near vision starts to get blurry. Before they know it, they can’t leave the house without a pair of reading glasses. Many people simply put off wearing reading glasses because they aren’t ready to accept that age “marker”. Tired of reading glasses making you look like an old librarian? What if we told you that you may not need reading glasses?

Disadvantages of Reading Glasses

People don’t like wearing reading glasses for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is the aging factor. Many people find them to be extremely inconvenient. Have you ever sat down at a restaurant and realized that you left your reading glasses at home, and now you can barely read the menu? Needing to put your reading glasses on and take them off several times a day can be frustrating. Luckily, there are other options.

What Is the Raindrop Inlay?

The Raindrop Inlay is a small device meant to permanently correct presbyopia. The Raindrop Inlay looks like a tiny, clear contact lens. The inlay is implanted into the cornea in one eye and acts as a contact lens would, allowing you to see more clearly up close. Because it is only implanted into one eye, you still maintain clear distance vision. No need to sacrifice your distance vision for near vision!

Why You Might Consider Raindrop

The Raindrop Inlay reduces or eliminates your need for reading glasses. That means more freedom and less dependence on reading glasses. No more holding your phone at an arm’s length or forgetting your reading glasses at home. Many people have seen the incredible benefits and results from Raindrop, and you may too!

The Raindrop Inlay Procedure

Once you are cleared as a candidate for the surgery, you may schedule your surgery date! The surgery itself will take around 10 minutes to complete. You will remain completely awake during the surgery, and you may choose to take a mild oral sedative to relax. Your eye will be numbed using local anesthetic eye drops, and your eyelid will be gently propped open using a lid speculum.
To start the procedure, your surgeon will use a laser to create a hinged flap in the corneal tissue of your non-dominant eye. The Raindrop inlay will then be placed onto the cornea and centered over your pupil. Your surgeon will then smooth the conreal flap back into place. That’s it! Your cornea is self-healing and will not require stitches.

You will not be able to drive directly after your procedure, so be sure to arrange a ride home. Many people see an instant improvement in their near vision after surgery. The recovery process is quick, although you may experience fluctuations in your vision as your eyes learn to work together. As long as you follow proper aftercare procedures such as using medicated eye drops, complication rates are very low.
